Glamour in the Details

MountainSide BeadWorks

Along with my husband, dog and cat, I live in a log home at the base of Ovando Mountain. A resident of Ovando, Montana since 2002, I have been a beader for over 30 years. My love of beading first began in my pottery studio, Middle Earth Pottery, when I started making clay beads and incorporating them into jewelry. My jewelry making evolved into the use of many types of beads (besides my own) and bead-weaving techniques, using unique and original designs which I developed. All of my current beadwork, which includes Cuffs, Bracelets, Necklaces and Earrings, is hand crafted in Montana.

The bracelets on display here were created by using the following techniques:

Cuffs

Beaded cuffs are a composite. I begin by weaving a design of beads on a traditional loom. The beadedstrip is then combined with a metal strip and leather backing, and hand-sewn to the leather. Cuffs are designed to snugly fit the wrist with a 1/2 to 3/4 inch opening in the back. Measure your wrist to determine your size. See chart below.

Modular Bracelets

Individual squares are constructed using the square stitch. The multi-colored modules are connected with a combination of Fresh Water Pearls and/or Swarovski Crystal Pearls and the bracelet is closed with an easy-to-use ball & socket clasp.

Ndebele Bracelets

The Ndebele (en-duh-Bell-y) stitch, used for the main length of these bracelets, is an ancient stitch developed by the Ndebele tribe of Southern Africa. The weaving technique creates a loose herringbone type weave. The end tabs are made with a typical brick stitch and are finished with an easy-to-use ball & socket clasp.

Custom orders, including different colors, sizes, and designs, are welcomed. Please allow up to three weeks for delivery. Additionally, selected pieces of my beadwork can be found locally at The Stray Bullet Café in Ovando, MT, The Grizzly Claw Trading Company in Seeley Lake, MT, and Twist on Higgins Street in Missoula, MT.
