Blackfoot Angler

Nestled at the end of a historical Trading Post in downtown Ovando, in what used to be home to Ovando's blacksmith, you'll find the "Best little fly shop on the Blackfoot River", the Blackfoot Angler & Supplies. Carrying the largest fly selection from Missoula to Great Falls and Helena; the Blackfoot Angler is a must see stop for every fly fisherman experiencing the magic of the Blackfoot River area.

Literally a Ma & Pa ownership, owners Travis Thurmond and Kathy Schoendoerfer continue to expand the little shop which has preserved its old western atmosphere. We offer Orvis, Simms, Rio and Redington products. Hunting and fishing licenses and everything ever thought of by and for fly fishermen is available at the Blackfoot Angler, from magnifying glasses to lip balm, from nippers to waders. They offer hundreds of fly patterns, all specific for the Big Blackfoot River.

But the Blackfoot Angler is not just for fly fishermen! Area recreationists can also find inner tubes and air mattresses. Bear spray sold here! Campers in need of last minute purchases will find coffee pots to table cloths, tarps to flashlights. Cyclists can find energy supplements and emergency bicycle needs, LED bike and hat lamps.

And who can go home without a gift to remind them of their fabulous times in the Blackfoot River Valley. Destination specific tees, hats, shirts and sweatshirts are a major draw. A corner of the shop is set aside for Made in Montana [and Ovando] gifts: locally made ceramic mugs, jewelry, woodworks, lotions, signs and even local basset hound greeting cards, along with Kathy’s special chutneys and seasonal truffles.

We are proud supporters of the Big Blackfoot Chapter of Trout Unlimited; the reason the Blackfoot and it’s tributaries are gaining in trout numbers. In support we sell BBCTU hats and are the exclusive suppliers of the Monte Dolack Big Blackfoot Chapter of Trout Unlimited river posters; signed and unsigned. All proceeds go to BBCTU.

The Blackfoot Angler is proud to provide a little bit of something for everyone. Stop by while visiting Ovando. Get the latest fishing tips from Travis. A warm greeting from Kathy, and an overwhelmingly enthusiastic welcome from our occasionally in resident fishing buddies: Sir Walter Rawley the Basset Hound and Maggie the Amazing Rescue watch dog. You can contact the Blackfoot Angler by email angler@blackfoot.net, by phone 406 793 FISH or check out their web site link at: www.blackfootangler.com for more detailed information and inventory.
